there is two transactions on my credit card that i did not make. i viewed my statement online today and,?
noticed that there were 2 payments that have gone out to paypal *rapidshare*, the one was for £22 and a couple of pence and the other for £5 and a couple of pence. both were made von the same day. i have phoned my credit card and could only speak to some foriegner who has assured me she would cancel my card and send out a new one with a new pin number and a form to fill out to explain about the two transactions. how easy is it to find reclaim the money and is there any way of finding out what company recieved the money as it went through paypal? i am with capital one. thanks in advance to any replies

You may wish to contact a consumer credit counselling office for clarification. The service is free throughout the UK. I am only familiar with consumer rights in the US.

Happened to me a few times before. Once you’ve made the complaint, the bank will freeze your account, cancel your card and send you a new card. You do not have to claim for the money. The bank would credit the money back to you once the investigation is over. Usually a few weeks time. It’s up to the bank to deal with the whoever that tries to take money from you. All credit card has fraud protection. Don’t worry too much about it.

It is quite simple. You fill out the forms they send you, which confirms that you did not make the transactions recorded on your statement. They will then investigate, and the amounts will be re-credited to your account. Ask them if the transactions were ‘customer not present’ type, and whether a PIN was used. I have had a couple of similar transactions on my account, and there was no PIN usage on them. In my case, it was an outfit called ‘Send2fax’, whom I’d never heard of before, and they took what appeared to be a service set-up fee of £80 and a later amount of £5. (I have since seen other complaints on the ‘net about other people having the same problem with Send2fax.) My card issuer did not issue a new card, but they did say that cards with disputed amounts on them are monitored to see if any further untoward activity appears on them. You may need to check your statements regularly to make sure the amounts are credited — my card issuer was rather slow in this.

This happened to me too with "paypal" only it wasn’t paypal. Firstly you’ve cancelled your card which is good! Check on your paypal statement of all transactions and it’ll have the user name and the real name of the person you sent money to. My money was taken in San Jose and I’ve never been there.
Capital one are supposed to be excellent when it comes to fraudulent use of a card, natwest on the other hand are awful. I’m still waiting 6 months later for them to return the £150 that was taken from my account. You’ll probably need to send them a copy of your statement as proof and get a crime reference number from the police and fill a form in. I hope you have better luck than me x
